One of the most prestigious and respected diamond grading laboratories in the world, the GIA, or Gemological Institute of America, is responsible for creating the International Diamond Grading System that is used today in the analysis of all diamonds. Founded in 1931, the GIA is a non-profit institute with headquarters in Carlsbad, CA. With laboratories, research centers, and school campuses around the world, the GIA has become a leading center in the gem and jewelry industry. A diamond with a GIA report or certificate is more highly valued, as the GIA has proven its consistency and unbiased grading.
The third highest grade possible in color, F ensures the diamond is colorless to the naked eye. However, minute traces of color do exist within the diamond, though they can only be detected by an expert gemologist. Diamonds of this color grade are rare and truly extraordinary in their beauty, as the absence of color makes them exemplary diamonds. F is an excellent color grade choice that offers tremendous value and quality.
The clarity grade SI1 ensures a diamond that has only slight inclusions or internal flaws. These inclusions usually are only visible if you utilize 10x magnification, but possibly may be detected by the naked eye as well. However, many diamonds of this grade have no visible flaws to the unaided eye, thus can be an affordable alternative that still buys a beautiful diamond. SI1 is a good clarity grade choice, catering to a consumer’s budget and still offering a quality diamond.
